Peru wins four accolades

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and Peru’s Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) proudly announced that our country won four World Travel Awards in the South American region.

The categories in which Peru prevailed are the following:

  • South America’s Leading Culinary Destination 2021.

The Peruvian restaurant “Central” was chosen as the best in South America, according to the ranking of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants of the year 2021.

The Restaurant “Central” is located in position four in the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world, while the also Peruvian Maido, occupied the seventh place on this prestigious list.

  • South America’s Leading Cultural Destination 2021.
  • South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2021Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu recognized as the best tourist destination in South America 2021

Our tourist banner Machu Picchu was recognized today as the best tourist destination in South America 2021 by the World Travel Awards, also called the Oscar of world Tourism. In a ceremony held in the Peru pavilion at Expo Dubai, the president of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, highlighted the award given to Machu Picchu and said that Peruvians should be proud of Machu Picchu, which he described as a “wonderful place and for being the best tourist destination in South America. In this way, Machu Picchu receives for the fourth consecutive year this important international distinction awarded by the World Travel Awards 2021 contest. The citadel of Machu Picchu has already won in this category in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions.

“The awards granted to our country reaffirm the tourism-related positioning of Peru in the world as a destination relying on vast cultural and natural wealth, in addition to highlighting the magnificence of Machu Picchu as a leading tourist destination in the region and (PromPeru) as leading State-run agency in promoting tourism,” Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez expressed.

The awards were handed out in an emotional and symbolic event at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Peruvian pavilion with the presence of PromPeru Executive-President Amora Carbajal and World Travel Awards founder Graham Cooke.
